Pompous. Conniving. Sexy as hell. Madelyn Grayson can’t stand Zack Douglas. Ever since he began working with her at a prestigious New York advertising firm, he has managed to get under her skin. She has had enough of his stupid smile, disgustingly beautiful green eyes, and too-perfect body. So when she spots him at a swanky New Year’s Eve party, she does her best to avoid him. But when he approaches her, coaxes her into dancing, and kisses her at midnight, she can’t ignore his charm or her desire. The two begin a secret whirlwind romance that leaves them both burning and wanting more. However, when Zack’s fears and past problems begin to surface, Madelyn is faced with a difficult choice: stay and risk a broken heart, or play it safe and leave him. The Last Man on Earth by Tracy Anne Warren
By Deb@Debbie's Book Bag
Author Tracy Anne Warren brings readers the first book in her new Graysons series. The Last Man on Earth takes readers on a work related romantic adventure from the boardroom to the bedroom. With two very successful advertising agents, a promotion up for grabs, and romance in the air, this is a contemporary romance readers will not want to miss. Warren's knack for writing realistic characters who act and feel like real people, serves her well in this novel about finding love in the most unexpected of places.
What I liked:
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not always very fond of contemporary romances. I love the grandeur and romanticism of historicals. But lately I have been finding a few contemporary authors that I really enjoy. Finding this new series by Tracy Anne Warren was really a surprise to me. I honestly didn't think I would like it. But after getting into to it a little bit and realizing that I liked the idea of romance in the real world, I started to really enjoy it. Warren does a fantastic job of creating characters that are witty and full of surprises.
I liked Madelyn a lot even though she didn't exactly handle things the way I think I would have at times. She was a successful woman who knew how to get what she wanted and was able to do it the right way. She didn't step on those in her way or cause a lot of chaos in the process. I liked her work ethic and her ability to laugh at herself. She and Zack had a lot of good dialogue throughout the book that created moments for comic relief and humor. I thought Warren did such a great job with this character.
Zack was pretty amazing for a lot of reasons. Even though he obviously has some demons in his past as far as relationships go, he is a real go-getter in the business world. He isn't afraid to be the bad boy in the work place or out of it and for some reason that was really appealing. He gives off this attitude of nonchalance but underneath he is a real sweetheart and very sexy to be sure.
When Zack and Madelyn begin to realize that things are changing from their friends with benefits relationship to real love, things start to get complicated. Madelyn is ready, but Zack is not, or at least he thinks he isn't. Madelyn ends up about to marry someone else before they both come to their senses. The romantic scenes are very hot in this novel and sizzling is probably not a strong enough word to describe them. But the tender moments, like the scene where Zack just can't let Madelyn marry someone else, are poignant and sweet. It was a great combination and rivalry to some extent.
Zack and Madelyn's work life is interesting and adds a lot of flavor to the book. Zack is like that little boy in class who pulls your hair because he doesn't know how to tell you he likes you. These two are at each others throats. They are up for the same promotion and ready to battle. That same passion carries over to their experiences in the bedroom and that makes all the difference. They are perfect for each other.
What I didn't like:
My one complaint about this one, would have to be how Madelyn handled her relationship with James. She dealt him a hard blow deciding on her wedding day that wanted to be with another man. The nice guy finished last and I wasn't too sure I liked that idea. Since this is going to be a series, I really hope that Warren redeems the situation by giving James his own happy ending. It wasn't a deal breaker on the book, but a little disheartening.

Strong, likeable characters, sizzling romance and growth made this a memorable tale.
By kimbacaffeinate
Warren introduced two strong, successful characters who were flawed in the relationship department. Madelyn has put her career first and slipped into an easy relationship with her lifelong friend. When he proposes, she turns him down because shouldn’t kisses bring heat and curl your toes or is that just in fairy tales? She is feeling pressure from her meddling family, and her attraction to Zack complicates things. I liked Madelyn, and while I didn’t always approve of her actions I felt strongly for her. Zack from outward appearances has it all. After all, he has a fancy car, a successful career and a woman on each arm. Zack has a reputation for being a bad boy, and he does nothing to quell the office rumor mill. I really liked Zack, underneath his confident exterior there is this sweet, vulnerable and flawed man. He has abandonment issues, and I loved seeing him grow and overcome.
The Last Man on Earth was a hilarious, sweet and sizzling hot romance with characters that kept me engaged. Warren paced the tale well, with just enough angst to keep me searching for my happily ever after. Her characters were realistic, flawed and truly likable. She peeled back their layers and then allowed them to grow. Madelyn was strong and wasn’t afraid to demand what she deserved, and I liked that about her. I struggled with the decision she made, but even as I disagreed, I understood her actions. Thankfully she rectifies her mistakes. The chemistry between Zack and Madelyn was red hot and passionate. I loved their conversations, his nickname for her. I became invested in their relationship even when I wanted to throttle them. Warren introduced side characters who interested me, and I enjoyed the little side stories. The tale wrapped up nicely, and I look forward to the next book in this series. A bit predictable, but good office romance
By Rachel M
Last Man on Earth is a workplace romance between competing co-workers. Madelyn cannot stand Zack. They have been in competition for the same promotions throughout their time at Fielding and Simmons, the advertising agency where they both work. On the other hand, Zack seems to know exactly what to do and say to push Madelyn's buttons, and enjoys getting a reaction from her. A chance meeting at a New Year's Eve party leads to a hotel bedroom and an agreement to see each other on weekends but continue their somewhat hostile relationship at work. Madelyn, especially, is concerned with what her friends and family will think if they find out she is sleeping with the man she has spent the last few years harping about whenever his name came up.
There is a lot of tension between the two of them, with each hiding interest in the other behind barbs and quick tempers. The interest and chemistry from Zack's side was well built. From the very beginning of the book, his internal thoughts point to interest in Madelyn beyond their current work hostility. Madelyn's change of heart from hostile opponent to attraction was a more abrupt change. I only recognized a couple lines of thought where she was doing anything but ripping in to Zack.
The storyline was a bit on the predictable side, though James coming back in to the plot later on did throw me for a loop, it was one that didn't take me long to catch on to. Some of the section breaks and perspective shifts felt abrupt as well.
Overall, this book had good aspects of an office romance with the addition of a commitment-phobe lead male and female lead looking to settle down. It was well written and smooth to read.
Thanks to PENGUIN GROUP Berkley, NAL / Signet Romance, DAW for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.
